Shinkage Heihō
The following individuals have formally trained with me in kenjutsu at the Gassankan:
- Jake Harlin, shoden
- Nicky Sayah Sina, shoden
- Anthony Nehls-Smith, nyumon
- Ryan Baisden, nyumon
- Phil Liu, nyumon
The level of nyumon is an indication the person is a formal student who has made a pledge (kishomon) and is not on probational status, while shoden is a recognition of skill at foundational kata practice ( hōjō and to-no-kata ) associated to the historical Jiki Shinkage-ryū.
Since the Gassankan is an independent line of practice of Shinkage-ryū, these levels serve as an indication of progression within our curriculum and are not recognized by third parties. Diploma are issued using the name Gassankan Kenpō instead of a classical ryūha.
